Should Poverty in America Be Eliminated?

A few years ago, I took Economics 101. When I graduated from that class, I left thinking: "man, things are really screwed up for a reason".

I used to argue that the citizens and our government should really focus on eliminating poverty across America instead of foreign nations around the world. I thought that our hard earned tax money should be put to good uses here at home instead of wasting it overseas. Poverty germinates crime and statistically spawn more babies. I learned that America needs crime and more tax payers. By having crime, there will always be police jobs. With poverty, there will always be people to fill in those low wage jobs at McDonalds. Also, we would not have a military if poor people didn't exist.

In the show The Simple Life, millionaire, Nicole Riche was too arrogant to commit herself to a job well done. Everything she did was screwed up. She ignored any kind of coaching what-so-ever. She refused to do menial jobs such as pouring milk into bottles or seasoning onion rings at Sonic Drive In. Now if you put her millions of dollars on the line, she would do a better job for the sake of keeping her job.

If poverty was abolished, would society run? Definitely not. They are the backbone that keeps everything together. We should always have poverty, but it should be controled. Common sense says, that too much poverty is bad.

What do you think of this topic?

Bitch please!!! Poverty sure enough has it place but to go as far as to say lets NOT eliminate it JUST control it, is stupid. With every effort in the world we still couldn't eliminate poverty but it is DEFINITELY worth a try. America is too great a nation to have 36 million people living below the poverty line.
