O'Bentos Galore!

O'bento place open 24 hours a day!

Today, we went out by the Shiori Train Station and located an O'bento place that sells bentos for cheap. We bought 2000 yen worth and took it home. So yummy!

Nayeli is getting over her sickness. We took her to the doctor last Tuesday and he said that she is getting over it. The caughing may persist for 5 weeks. Now, I'm sick. Soco passed it on to Nayeli, and Nayeli passed it on to me. I've been taking this stuff called, "Airborne". It is medicine tablets with vitamins and herbs. It is a temporary relief but it doesn't really cure anything. You don't get much for what you pay for and I think it is too expensive for what it is. The razzle-dazzle effect when you drop the tablet into 8 oz of water is pretty cool. You get to watch it vanish! There goes your money! It turns into bubbles and makes the water taste like orange soda.

Nayeli looks annoyed

I thought this picture is funny and it pretty much represents what her feelings are at the moment. I'm standing next to a pub.

The Tesla Roadster

I was reading about a concept car that runs totally on lithium-ion batteries (the same kind of batteries that run laptops). It looks like a pretty good idea. Hardly believable, but it runs 0-60mph in 4 seconds! And can go 250 miles per charge. Cool isn't it? Check it out:

Little Trip to Liven's

Yesterday, Nayeli and I went out for a 10 mile walk to the Livin store and back. It was a 4 hour adventure. She got to see the sights of big city Japan. Amazingly, I didn't spend any money or eat anything. When it started to sprinkle, I rushed back home and by the time I got there, the clouds moved away. Go figure. We had fun though.

Taking the Baby Out

Busy Street in Sasebo, Japan
Yellow Flowers

We have been taking the baby out so much that she almost expects to be taken out at certain times of the day. Today I walked her to the Daiei Mall (a 30 minute walk) and somehow she fell asleep on the way back. We also had a yard sale today. It gave me a chance to get rid of some of Nayeli's clothes that don't fit anymore and some movies and my old PlayStation. I'm planning on selling my laptop too. I had time to connect my wireless internet network at home which is pretty cool. I can connect to the internet all over my house or outside.

Why is there only 24 hours in a day?

Kobo Cottage Orpheanage Singing a Song

I was raised with the belief that I should save every single little penny. In my first years in my career in the Navy, I was known as "cheap one". I spent an entire month on ramen noodles which were 12 cents a package and if I ate one 3 times a day, I would have only spent 36 cents a day on food. I came to realize that I had lost a considerable amount of weight and I was starting to become a little dizzy because I wasn't getting all the nutrients I needed. I learned my lesson and I never did that again. I still continued being cheap with other things. I ended up saving enough money for a laptop and a used car. No loans, no debt, paid off in cash money.

Fast forward 8 years. Now married, with a baby, studying for an advancement exam that I don't have a chance on earth in picking up rank, and bombarded with everyday chores and vehicle maintenance. No time to do anything. Can I be cheap still? Of course I can, but I have learned a new phrase to live by. And that is, "Do you have more Time or Money?" Do I have time to wait one hour for a bus (free) or to pay a taxi $5 to take me somewhere? Simple formula, time can be bought. The more money you have, the more time you can save. Sure, go out to eat instead of cooking at home. It saves time in cooking and cleaning, while being able to pick up a book and study. Time is precious. Don't waste it because you can't take money with you when you die. It is what you do with your time that counts.
