This year's big concern from what I hear from most people is gas mileage. With gas prices being at the mercy of middle eastern countries and worldwide fuel shortages, people are more reluctant to purchase those gas guzzling SUV's. Instead, people want hybrids. At the show, it appears that Ford is working hard to produce a plug-in hybrid, while GM is focusing most of it's energy on Ethanol. As of right now, a recent article in Popular Magazine says that it takes more oil to produce ethanol than the amount of useful energy that can be obtained from ethanol. Mostly because it takes oil to produce ethanol and oil to haul it to gas stations. It also takes more ethanol than gas to go one mile. The technology on ethanol is going to improve though. The trucks that will haul this stuff will eventually be ran on ethanol too.

Soco is extremely jealous of this. But I told her, even if we did have a plug-in hybrid Escape, where would we plug it in? Somebody will steal our extension cords. Our current hybrid is good enough for now. I would like to get a solar panel for her car.
