Remodeling a home is quite expensive so I have to do it in phases. When I first bought my home in Los Angeles, I began with the most urgent which was the bathroom. I went with a general contractor. I'm not skilled or have the time to do a bathroom so I hired someone to do it right. In 2025, the cost to remodel a small bathroom with large tile pieces ran me over $30K. The tile alone was about $5K.
It takes about a month to complete the bathroom.
I went in this order:
1. Guest bathroom
2. Air conditioning
3. Windows
4. Ceiling repainting / tile flooring for the entire house
5. Kitchen
6. Exterior repaint and repair all stucco, install exterior electrical outlets.
7. EV charger
8. Master bathroom
9. Outdoor pergola
Future projects:
1. Carport for shade
2. Roof
3. Solar panels
So far, I've spent around $200K with all the improvements and I'm slowly knocking everything off my list.
